Winter: Embrace It
Cross-Country Skiing — Theodore Wirth Park has groomed trails inside the city. Equipment rentals are on site. Minneapolis winters stop being something to survive and start being something to do.
Curling — The St. Paul Curling Club is one of the largest in the US and actively welcomes beginners. It's social, strategic, and surprisingly addictive.
Ice Fishing — A uniquely Minnesotan experience. Chain of Lakes freezes solid, locals drill holes, and something meditative happens.
Creative Hobbies
Pottery — Mudluk Pottery on Lake Street is one of the city's most beloved studios. Great class options for beginners.
Printmaking — Northern Print Studio offers classes in letterpress, screen printing, and relief printing. Northeast Minneapolis has a dense arts district for this.
Fiber Arts — The Textile Center in Minneapolis is the largest fiber arts center in the US. If you want to learn weaving, spinning, knitting, or dyeing, this is the place.
Summer: Chain of Lakes and Beyond
Cycling — Minneapolis has over 100 miles of trails. The Chain of Lakes loop is a perfect beginner ride.
Kayaking and Paddleboarding — Rentals available at multiple lakes. No experience needed.
Urban Photography — Four vivid seasons, lakes, architecture, and street art make Minneapolis excellent for photography.
